MAYORAL

The essence of Jumilla

MAYORAL

The Mayoral, weathered by the sun, walks through the limestone lands drained by the valleys and worn down by time. The roots of his heart lie here.

This is the essence of Jumilla, the expression of aromas and the explosion of flavors contained in the alchemy of his old winery.

JUMILLA

The Jumilla Protected Designation of Origin is located in the interior of the province of Murcia, an area characterized by high temperatures throughout the year, which are ideal for growing the Monastrell variety.

The Monastrell variety is a grape variety of Spanish origin, which is widespread throughout the Mediterranean coastline and is the third most planted variety in Spain. It is at its best in Jumilla. Its clusters are small to medium-sized and fairly compact, with spherical, medium-sized berries that are blue-black in color and have thick skins rich in anthocyanins. The flesh is fleshy and soft with low tannin content.

It is a very hardy variety with high resistance to drought and requires good sunlight.

Mayoral wine is produced in our Bodegas 1890 winery, the birthplace of García-Carrión, where we produce all our wines under the Jumilla Protected Designation of Origin. Bodegas 1890 is the origin of the García-Carrión revolution.

This winery owes its name to the year García-Carrión was founded. Its wines are the result of the work of six generations who, over the years, have passed on the most appropriate cultural practices and, in turn, adapted the best grape varieties to the lands of Jumilla, an area privileged for its contrasts of mountains and valleys.
